Altitude Profile (570 ft to 1,271 ft)
a Peak District classic around the Ladybower reservior and surrounding trails. What to expect? Tough technical climbing and loose rocky descents in fantastic surroundings with amazing views, this really is a British classic area to ride, and should be explored and ticked off by any would be mountain biker.
The route starts from Fairholmes carpark and takes in some gentle rolling trails around the reservior before the stiff climb up the flagstones, and then on mixed terrain to the rolling cross country section to Winstone Lee Tor, following this a long technical decent follows which, will be muddy at first, and then rocky as a rocky thing, this leads us to the side of the Ladybower inn.
Next is a road section taking us to the long climb to Hope Cross with amazing views of the surrounding area, a grassy fast descent before the technical "potato run" descent.
Next is a tough road climb up Rowlee farm, before then the short but sweet Hagg farm descent, before a final tough climb and then the Lockerbrook descent to finish.
Ride is 21 miles in total, and pads are recommended if you have them as the descents are loose / rocky in nature, also worth bring spare brake pads as the grit stone of the local area is hard on brake pads, and if running innertubes plenty of these as due to the rocky nature pinch flats are common. The descents are technical in nature and reward some courage and speed, but are managable by most.
There is the option to miss out 1 descent and 1 climb if anyone is flagging near the end of the route to reduce the ride to around 18 miles.
Meet point is Lymm services for a 8:00 am prompt drive off, or meet at Ladybower Fairholmes to be ready to ride off at 9:30 am.
