Altitude Profile (2,726 ft to 5,902 ft)
The track consists of two parts:
1. Altenmarkt im Pongau - Wagrain - Flying Mozart II (cable car) middle station
-- Interruption: Cable car travel by Flying Mozart II
2. Flying Mozart II top station (Grießenkareck) - Wagrain - Flachau - thorugh Gasthof Winterbauer - Altenmarkt im Pongau
Part 1: From Altenmark in Pongau, an asphalt cyclo route parallel to the higway 163 leads you to the town of Wagrain. On the crossroad in the town centre, take turn to the left, direction Kleinar. Follow the asphalt route and after ca 5,5 km turn to the left (almost under the right angle). Then the hardest part of the trip begins, leading you to the Flying Mozart II (cable car) middle station. There you can decide to take a lift (as was our case) or continue with zig-zagging climb by bike up to the top station (a really hard work!). Near the top station, there is a first refreshment point.
Part 2: From the top lift station you have two options to ride downhill:
a/ ride the Wagrain bikepark trail (which is technically difficult in the upper half - stones, roots, mud, steep slopes and therefore recommended for adanced bikers only). The second half of the bikepark (beginnig near the Flying Mozart's middle station) is suitable for intermediate bikers, however be careful, as curves are rather steep and sometimes slick, as well.
b/ ride the path under the lift (which is provided in the attached GPX file)
Whatever approach you chose, you will end up in Wagrain - the second refreshment point.
On the way back to Altenmarkt, take the road that led you to Wagrain, in reverse. Ride until Feuersang, where you need to drive throug two roundabouts and then drive under the highway A10. Then the last climb of the trip begins, finishing nearby the Winterbauer restaurant - the third refreshment point. From this point on, there is a only swift downhill to the Altenmarkt. Here the ride finishes.
And why the name "Gentlemens ride"? That day we agreed with our wifes that men will be allowed to organize the time according to their taste in the morning in exchange for option that ladies will set up their programme in the evening separately. So no ladies, only three gentlemen enjoyed this beautiful trip.
PS: sorry for the track record imperfections - it was imported from third party application. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a usable software to "polish" the track appropriately. Anyway, I hope somebody will find it useful.
