Altitude Profile (5,474 ft to 6,339 ft)
These trails follow the old Alamogordo–Sacromento Mountains railroad, which over the past decade have slowly but surely been converted into the Cloudcroft Cloud Climbing trail system
I entered from Fresnal Canyon Rd, near the Salado Canyon Trestle (which you can hike over!). Not knowing where the trail went going west, I turned back after a short distance. Going east, you will pass Bridal Veil Falls and reach a very unmaintained part of the rail grade. I passed at least 4 or 5 destroyed/abandoned railroad trestles, the last of which was impassable (50 ft drop). Bushwhacking from there, I made it back to Fresnal Canyon Road and headed back to where I parked. I found the railroad grade again (which is apparently part of the Grand View trail), and followed it a short distance back to the impassable trestle.
The first portion of this trail is easy. A bit after Bridal Veil Falls, the grade is heavily overgrown and you need to be creative bypassing fallen trestles.
