Training advice for 60km walk is to do two 5-6 hour walks per week a month before the event.
Got the weather wrong again and from 4 hours in, rain was was relentless.
Very challenging and because I'd thought to measure by time and just see where I got to, I ended up having to rethink the route.
I'd walked NNE from my house to get to the South Downs Way - 7 miles mainly on pavement, with a very tedious, very long incline. I thought that I would get to to Chichester in about 20 miles, but en route, at about 14 miles, saw that it would be at least 24 miles and conditions were just too bad.
Tried rerouting to Graffham, but couldn't be sure if a bus would get me to Chichester.
So, decided to go to Slindon. On a quiet road in Slindon there was a unmanned stall set up by the Slindon bakery, full of cakes, scones and bread.I bought an as big as a plate iced bun. Cheered me up no end and didn't matter that the bun was a bit rain wet. Just as well as there was no pub remaining open in Slindon.
So with no chance of drying out in pub and then a taxi, walked on to Barnham railway station.
