Vancouver-The Abyss-Ile de Denman.
We depart early in order to drive across Vancouver Island. Upon arrival on the other side, we finally mount the mountain bikes for our first half-day (3-4 hours) of riding.
Our adventure begins at the Abyss, a trail named for a fissure so deep it has never been measured. Aside for being a thrilling ride, the trail is also very meaningful to the area’s native population.
During this first ride, we follow a ridgeline with a series of pleasant yet slightly technical trails. The rock is very adherent, reminiscent of the slick rock of Moab (in Utah, USA). In the evening we head to Denman Island and our lodging for the night: a small organic farm which greets us in its warm and relaxed atmosphere. Shared occupancy rooms.
